Executive Director - Roger Bergeron
The LATA Executive Director’s position is a realization of the Association’s Vision Committee, charged with formulating a long range plan for the organization’s mission, goals and objectives. The Executive Director is charged with performing several duties, at the discretion of the Board. The Executive Director serves as a focal point to receive, respond and disseminate information related to the work of the LATA, as well as serve as the Association’s liaison to several external organizations that frequently interact with the LATA on local tax matters. In addition to providing consultation and research data at the request of the Board, the Executive Director serves to communicate topical material to the general membership via the Association’s quarterly newsletter. And the Executive Director assists the Education Committee in the formulation and presentation of continuing educational seminars.
Still in its formative stage, the office of the Executive Director has become an integral part of the Association’s participation in the legislative process. In addition to reviewing and identifying bills that affect local tax collection and administrative matters, the Executive Director serves to coordinate the work of the LATA Legislative Committee in the application of the Association’s legislative policy, as well as direct involvement with the authors/proponents of proposed legislation to voice the Association’s position on such matters. Similarly, the Executive Director coordinates the Association’s response to proposed rules and regulations under consideration by the Louisiana Department of Revenue with respect to “common law” sales tax issues. Currently, the Executive Director also serves as the LATA’s representative on the Act 442 Collaborative Work Group.
Roger Bergeron, retired Revenue Director for West Baton Rouge Parish, was named to the position by the Board of Directors, effective January 2009. Prior to his retirement, Mr. Bergeron was a certified tax administrator in the sales tax and occupational license tax fields, served on numerous LATA committees since 1990, and is a past president of the organization.
